A beautiful cranberry-red spinel crystal collection decorates a contrasting marble matrix from Luc Yen, Vietnam. These gemmy crystals, with a shiny luster, display textbook octahedral crystal forms. This is a very representative and notable specimen from this renowned locality.

Spinel comes in practically every hue and may be used to create a variety of jewels. It is not a well-known gem, although good specimens can attain very high prices. The most precious spinel is bright red, sometimes known as Ruby Spinel.

The famed Black Prince's Ruby, which is the centerpiece of the Royal Crown of Great Britain, was revealed to be a Spinel rather than a Ruby.
