Description

This is an original German Made structural Geological Compass. It was manufactured in GDR by VEB Freiberger Präzisionsmechanik, and is the earliest Freiberger version (without mirror). The Freiberger Geologist's Compass facilitates the quick reading of 'strike and dip' and of 'direction of dip' and 'dip angle', respectively, of elements of the area. The quick reading of strike and plunge of linear elements is possible in one operation.

The Freiberger compass is mostly used in Europe, while the Brunton compass is used in the USA and Canada. Both of them are very expensive (~600 €). Geological measurements can be made with other instruments, must cheaper, like Silva compass, Recta compass, Smartphone app compass, etc.
